Permissions & modes

Claude asks on a card before it edits a file or runs a command. You answer from the keyboard, and the permission mode (⇧⇥) decides how often it asks.

What each mode lets through

Ask before edits asks before each file change and most commands. Accept edits lets file changes through, but most commands still ask. Plan mode changes nothing until you approve a plan. Bypass permissions never asks; Multee checks with you the first time you turn it on.

Say no, and tell Claude what to do instead

Just start typing on the card: your words go into its last answer, “No, and tell Claude what to do differently”. ⏎ turns the request down and hands Claude your words, so it can try another way. Esc also says no.

Plan first, then approve the plan

In plan mode Claude researches and proposes a plan before changing anything. The plan arrives on a card: approve it and let the edits through, approve it but check each edit yourself, or keep planning and say what to change.

A new folder asks once

The first chat in a folder Claude hasn’t been trusted with asks before Claude starts. Trust folder & start already has the keyboard, so space accepts, and that folder won’t ask again.
