Chat

The chat

A chat tab is Claude Code as a Mac conversation, with no terminal in between. Open one with ⌘⇧M to see edits as diffs, get a short version of any answer, and jump back to anything you asked.

Since
0.1.22
Where to find it
File ▸ New Claude Chat · or the chat bubbles in the tab bar
Keys
⌘⇧M

Hide Claude's thinking and tool calls

In Settings ▸ Chat, under While Claude works, show, switch off Thinking, Notes between steps or Tool calls. Their rows leave every chat at once, and come back when you switch them on again. Claude’s final answer always shows.

Follow agents and to-do lists as they run

An agent Claude starts counts its tool uses on its row until its report comes back. Claude’s to-do list ticks itself off as it works: ☑ done, ◐ under way, ☐ still to do.

Jump to a message from the keyboard

⌘J opens the list of messages you sent, with the one you’re reading picked. ↑ and ↓ move the pick, ⏎ takes the chat there, and esc closes the list.

Switch a tab to the terminal and back

Right-click a chat tab and choose Open in Terminal UI: the same conversation carries on in Claude Code’s terminal. On a Claude terminal tab, Open as Chat brings it back.
