Tabs
Each project has its own tabs: chats, Claude in a terminal, terminals, files, diffs and searches. Open them from the tab bar or the keyboard; they keep running while you look at another.

Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”Tell the kinds of tab apart
A tab with a dot runs Claude, as a chat or in a terminal, and the dot shows what it’s doing. Other tabs show a sign instead: ❯ a terminal, ✎ a file, ± a diff from Changes, ⌕ a search.
Move a conversation between chat and terminal
Right-click a chat tab and choose Open in Terminal UI: the same conversation carries on in Claude Code’s own terminal screen, in the same tab. On a terminal tab, Open as Chat goes the other way.
Start Claude with a preset
The ▾ at the right of the tab bar, or ⌘⌥C, opens Claude in a terminal tab with a preset: carry on the last conversation, pick an older one to resume, or skip permission prompts.
